Create means to put ideas or things together in a new way or invent.
When we create, we put elements together to form a coherent or functional whole. For example, you may create a birdhouse by putting together wood and nails. By themselves, the wood, nails, saw, and hammer would not be very useful, but together they can function to create something. Create does not always mean that you make something “from scratch” or invent something. Create may mean that you reorganize elements into a new pattern or structure. For example, you may use your mom’s best cookie recipe, but you put pecans in it. You’ve basically created a new cookie.
Is there a difference between create and make?
When you create something, you essentially make something new that did not exist before. When you make something, you form it by putting parts together or combining things. Oftentimes making something requires you to use your creative thinking as you engage in the process of moving from where you are to where you want to be. Creative thinking is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective and thinking “outside the box.” You do things like wonder, imagine, brainstorm, connect, or invent in order to produce what you want. So, creating and making often go hand-in-hand.
